We picked up the OMNIA stove top oven when pan-only meals started to feel a bit repetitive. It’s a small aluminium oven that sits directly on a camping stove and uses the heat from the burner to bake rather than boil or fry. There’s no power, no separate fuel, and no installation. If you’ve got a working stove, you’re set.
The appeal for us was baking. Bread especially. Being able to make something that feels closer to home cooking, without fitting a full oven into the van, is what the OMNIA does best. It does work. You can bake bread, cakes, and other oven-style meals, and the results are good once you’ve got a feel for the heat.
That learning curve matters. Heat control is everything, and it takes a bit of practice to avoid hot spots or undercooked centres. Cooking times are longer than at home, and you need to stay nearby rather than setting it and walking away. It’s not difficult, but it does ask for patience and attention.
In terms of space, it earns its keep. It’s compact enough to store without reshuffling the whole van, which is a big part of why we kept using it. There are optional extras like silicone liners and racks that make some jobs easier, but they’re sold separately and the cost adds up quickly.
This isn’t gear for rushed overnights or quick roadside stops. It comes into its own when you’re parked up for a while and want to slow things down a bit. It sits somewhere between basic camping cooking and having a built-in oven, and whether that gap matters to you depends on how you travel.
As part of a vanlife cooking setup, the OMNIA isn’t a must-have. But if food is a real part of how you enjoy time on the road, and you’re happy to cook at a gentler pace, it’s a solid, well-thought-out option that does what it claims without fuss.
