If there is a street food market on, especially one with solid plant-based options, I will usually end up there.
Peddler Night Market is one of the better finds since moving to Sheffield, along with most of Kelham Island to be fair. It runs once a month at the 92 Burton Road site, with a “Veg Out” edition every three to four months where all traders are vegetarian or vegan friendly.
They describe themselves as a community of traders, makers, movers and shakers, which sounds like standard wording, but it does feel accurate once you are inside.
First Impressions and Layout
Entry is through a security checkpoint, which is fairly standard for events like this. It keeps outside drinks out and helps things run smoothly inside.
The first courtyard is busy straight away. Food stalls line the space and the smell hits you before you have properly taken it in. There is a seating area to one side where people are already settled in, which gives the whole place an easy, social feel from the start.
Moving into the main hall, things open up. There are more food options, a large bar with a good range of craft beers, and a bigger seating area where people tend to stay a bit longer. It is the kind of space where you can slow down once you have your food and a drink.
At the back of the hall, a few independent traders and local artists have stalls set up. It is not a huge section, but it adds a bit of variety beyond just food and drink.
A DJ is usually set up in the corner, and the music carries through the whole venue without taking over. It adds to the atmosphere without making it hard to talk.
At one point, two young kids were dancing in the middle of it all without a care, while families and groups of friends caught up around them. That probably sums up the general feel better than anything else.
The Back Courtyard
Out the back, there is a second courtyard with more food vendors, a fire pit, and a stage for live performances. This area feels slightly more open and is worth walking through even if you have already chosen what to eat.
What works well here is how local businesses join in. Depot Bakery and Nether Edge Pizza open up during the event, and Kelham Arcade is accessible for a wander. You can quite easily end up browsing between food stops, whether that is records, prints, or something small like a cactus from The Gravel Pit.
What I Ate
I went for the currywurst and rosemary salted fries from Get Wurst. I had not tried a seitan bratwurst before, but curry and fries is usually a safe bet.
It turned out to be a good choice. The texture of faux meats can be hit and miss, but this one worked well. The curry ketchup and pickle on the side added some sharpness, which balanced things out nicely. The fries were well seasoned and the portion size was enough without being heavy.
At £7.50, it did feel slightly on the expensive side for what you get. It is not unreasonable, but once you start adding drinks and something sweet after, the total climbs quickly.
Cost and What to Expect
It is easy to assume a street food market will come in cheaper than a restaurant, but that is not really the case here. By the time you have had food, a couple of drinks, and maybe dessert or coffee, you are looking at the same as a standard night out, if not more.
That is worth keeping in mind before you go. You are paying for variety, atmosphere, and the ability to try different things in one place. It feels more like an occasional treat than something you would do every week.
Overall Feel
As an event, it works well. It is relaxed, well set up, and easy to enjoy at your own pace. It is also both child and dog friendly, which makes it more accessible earlier in the evening.
Later on, the focus shifts more towards drinking and the space fills up with people staying out for the night. That change in atmosphere is not a problem, but it is something to be aware of depending on when you plan to visit.
Overall, it is worth checking out, especially if you time it with a Veg Out event. Just go in knowing what kind of night it is likely to be.
