It can be difficult to find somewhere to eat in this area if you are trying to avoid the usual heavy options. There is no shortage of pub food and processed meals nearby, but lighter, freshly prepared choices are less common. Greenbean Coffee Shop and Bistro in Todwick stands out for that reason.
The café sits inside a garden centre just off the A57, making it an easy stop if you are passing through or travelling between Sheffield and the surrounding villages. From the outside, the setting is fairly functional, but once you are inside, it feels quite different.
The space itself is bright and open, with a clear view through to the kitchen from most tables. It gives a sense of how the food is being prepared, which always adds a bit of reassurance. There is also outdoor seating for warmer days, although the roadside location means you are better off inside if you want a quieter experience.
The menu covers a wide range, from a full English breakfast through to lighter options like salads and quiches. It works well if different people want different things, without feeling overly complicated.
I went for the quiche of the day, served with a goats’ cheese and asparagus salad. It came with a generous leafy side, hand-cooked crisps, and a portion of homemade coleslaw. It was a well-balanced plate and didn’t feel like an afterthought, which can sometimes be the case with salads.
The quiche itself was properly filled, with noticeable chunks of cheese and asparagus rather than being overly egg-heavy. The coleslaw stood out as well, fresh and well seasoned with a good-quality mayonnaise. It tied everything together without being overly rich.
I also added a portion of homemade chips. Not exactly in keeping with the lighter meal, but worth it. They were thick-cut, well cooked, and had that proper homemade texture that is hard to get right.
Afterwards, we ordered coffees and a peppermint tea. The coffee was well made with a good, clean flavour. The peppermint tea came in a teapot with loose leaves, which felt like a small but thoughtful detail.
The café was busy while we were there, but the staff stayed attentive without hovering. Service felt organised and steady, even during the rush.
Pricing is reasonable for what you get. The salad dish was £7.95, and for three people the total came to around £30. For a freshly prepared lunch in a comfortable setting, that feels fair.
If you are passing along the A57 or looking for something lighter than the usual options in the area, Greenbean is worth keeping in mind.
