QTshinee Power Bank

I picked up a QTshinee power bank before a trip after realising how often my phone and tablet seemed to run low at the least helpful moments. It is one of those bits of kit that does not feel especially exciting when you buy it, but becomes useful very quickly once you are away from a plug socket for most of the day.

Since then, it has quietly become part of my regular travel setup. I use it mostly on longer days out, van trips and times when I know I will be relying on my phone for photos, maps, messages or general planning.

Capacity and size

The unit I have been using has a 26800 mAh capacity. On paper, that sounds like a fairly chunky power bank, but in real use it is smaller and lighter than I expected for that size of battery.

It slips into a backpack without much thought and has not felt like dead weight on the road. That matters more than it might seem, because a power bank is only useful if you actually bring it with you. If it feels awkward or too bulky, it is the sort of thing that gets left behind in the van, the car or at home.

Charging phones and tablets

There are two USB ports, so I can charge a phone and a tablet at the same time. That has been useful when I am out with someone else, or when I want to top up more than one device without swapping cables around.

For phones and tablets, it has been reliable. I have used it when walking, travelling and setting up around the van, and it has done the simple job I bought it for: keeping everyday devices going when I am away from mains power.

The manufacturer suggests it can also handle some laptops. I have not tested it with a laptop myself, so I would treat that as something to check against your own device rather than a reason to buy it on its own. For my use, it has been a phone and tablet charger first.

LED indicator and built-in torch

The LED indicator shows roughly how much charge is left in the power bank. It is a small detail, but it helps because you are not guessing whether it needs topping up before the next day out.

There is also a small torch built into the unit. I have used it a few times when setting up camp after dusk or looking for things in the dark. It is not bright enough to light a whole pitch, but it is useful for small jobs around the van, finding a cable, checking a bag or getting your bearings without digging out a separate torch.

Charging performance and safety

Charging speed has not been an issue in my use. The power bank seems to adjust to what is plugged in, delivering an efficient charge without anything overheating.

It also has built-in protection against overcharging, overheating and short-circuiting. That gives a bit of reassurance, especially when it is being used in a bag, in the van or while charging devices that I rely on during a trip.

Build and everyday use

I was slightly unsure at first because it is not a pricey piece of kit. After a few months of regular use, though, it has held up well. There is no obvious wear and it still charges my devices as well as it did when it was new.

It is not something I think about much, which is probably a good sign. It goes in the bag, gets used when needed, and takes away the usual worry of watching a phone battery drop when you still need maps, photos or contact with someone later in the day.

Who it suits

The QTshinee power bank makes sense for anyone who spends long periods away from a plug socket. That might be on a road trip, a long walk, a family day out, a camping trip or a day when you are using your phone more heavily than usual.

For van and campervan travel, it is useful as a backup rather than a full power solution. It will not replace a proper leisure battery setup, but it is handy for keeping small devices charged without needing to run cables around the van or rely on the vehicle every time a phone gets low.

Final thoughts

All told, the QTshinee power bank has been a practical addition to my travel kit. The combination of capacity, size and simplicity has made it useful on trips without becoming another bit of gear that needs managing.

It is a straightforward power bank, and that is part of the appeal. For phones and tablets, it has been reliable, easy to pack and useful often enough that it now comes with me on most longer days out.
