Treacle Valley Campsite

Tucked away in the quiet corner of Daccombe near Newton Abbot, Treacle Valley Campsite is the kind of place that makes it easy to slow down. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt calm and unhurried, with plenty of space and a real sense of peace that’s sometimes hard to find on busier sites.

One of the first things that stands out is the amount of room. The site feels open and spacious, giving you the freedom to choose a pitch that suits how you like to camp. Whether that’s a sheltered spot beneath the trees or somewhere more open with clear views out towards Dartmoor, there’s enough space for it to feel flexible rather than crowded.

The views are a big part of the experience here. Waking up and seeing Dartmoor’s tors in the distance gives the whole stay a quiet sense of place. Even if you’re not usually up for sunrise, it’s the sort of setting that makes an early morning coffee outside feel worth it.

Its location also works well as a base for exploring this part of Devon. Torbay’s beaches are only a short drive away, which makes it easy to spend a day by the coast, whether that means a swim, a walk along the seafront, or simply some time on the sand. In the other direction, Dartmoor National Park is close enough for anything from a gentle afternoon walk to a longer day hike across the moor.

What stayed with us most, though, was how accommodating the site was in practice. During our stay, one member of our group needed a level pitch for accessibility reasons. The staff were understanding from the outset and genuinely helpful in making sure we had a suitable space. It never felt like an inconvenience to them, and that kind of practical support can make a real difference to a stay.

The facilities were equally reassuring. The toilet and shower block was cleaned regularly and kept to a consistently high standard throughout our visit. Everything felt well looked after, which goes a long way when you’re staying on site for more than a night or two.

Overall, Treacle Valley is a relaxed and well-placed campsite for anyone looking to spend time in the Devon countryside without feeling too far from the coast or the moor. It suits both experienced campers and those newer to camping, largely because it combines practical comfort with a genuinely peaceful setting. It’s the sort of place we’d happily return to for a slower few days away.
